Summer Catering

As the warm weather increases, so does the desire to hold your event outdoors. If you decide to have an outdoor party there are several factors in keep in mind while planning your event. Be sure to consult with your caterer about these issues so as to make sure all of your guests are as comfortable as possible.

Twilight
Dusk is a beautiful time of day, however, as the sun sets, the mosquitoes emerge into the cool air. Some parts of the Bay Area are more habitable to mosquitoes than others. Visit the event space at dusk and determine if the mosquitoes will be a bother to your guests. Also note the decrease in temperature at this time of day. Guests attending an event that starts at 3 pm can come in summerwear, but may need to have sweaters and jackets handy by 7 pm. Again, visit the space and make sure you give your guests some clothing suggestions for the day of the event.

Sunshine
You might need to offer your guests a spot to rest and get out of the sun. Not everyone loves sunshine, and just 20 minutes in the sun can mean uncomfortable sunburns. If you are having your event during daylight hours, you should offer at least one large tent where guests can sit and relax in the shade.

Food
Not all food is appropriate for an outdoor event. Depending on the facilities available, you might have to offer cold soups and salads instead of hot appetizers. Entrees of hot food like chicken, rice, and steamed vegetables can cool very quickly if outdoors. Take advantage of the environment and offer barbecued meats and roasted vegetables instead.

If you want your wedding, corporate retreat, or birthday party outdoors, consult with a caterer as to how to make the time most comfortable for your guests. With countless hours of experience, your caterer can help you make the most of your event.
