Any time you plan a special event, you need to think about how you will feed all of the guests. Hiring a caterer is a great way to ensure that all of your guests are well-fed, but you are still free to be a good host rather than spending all your time cooking and cleaning. Here are a few mistakes to avoid if you hire a caterer for your next private event.
- Padding the Guest Count – A good catering company knows how much food to make for the number of guests you expect. There will even be a little extra in case your guests are really hungry or you get a few party crashers. If you pad the count, there will be a lot of waste, and you will have spent more money than you needed to.
- Leaving No Time to Set Up – When you tell your caterer the time of the event, make sure they know when you plan to serve the meal so they can let you know how far ahead of time set up needs to begin. If you want to serve a wedding feast at 7 but tell the caterer they can’t arrive until 6 to set up, it is unlikely your meal will be served on time.
- Thinking Food Is the Only Expense – Remember that you will need plates, utensils, glassware, tablecloths and many other items. Your caterer may be able to provide all of these things for you, but there will be an added expense involved.
