If you are planning your wedding for the fall, you are far from alone. In fact, The Knot has recently declared fall the most popular time of year to get married (supplanting summer). However, fall weddings can be tricky at times. That’s why we’ve compiled this list of fall wedding faux pas, so your special day can avoid the drama and be all about you.
Consideration #1 – Holidays and Observances
The biggest problem with planning a special event in the fall is that there are already so many. For one thing, if you have any Jewish friends you will be inviting, you need to avoid special holy days like Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) or Yom Kippur (Atonement Day). There are also nationally celebrated holidays like Thanksgiving. And it is unlikely that you will want your wedding day to land on Halloween (unless that’s what you’re into – we’re not judging). Picking the right date will help ensure the people you want there the most will be able to make it.
Consideration #2 – Allergies
Ragweed can turn a beautiful day that requires tissues for happy tears into a messy day that requires tissues for sneezing and nose blowing. Be sure to check with the national allergy bureau to find out when the pollen count is expected to be at its worst, especially if you are planning an outdoor wedding.
Consideration #3 – A Cold Front
Fall is still usually pretty mild in San Jose and the Bay Area, but you need to be prepared for a possible cold front that could throw a damper on your plans. If you are going to attempt an outdoor wedding, be sure to have alternate plans in case it is unseasonably chilly. At the very least, provide a reminder to guests to dress appropriately and to have something warm to throw on later in the evening.
