Springtime is a great time to throw a fabulous party in your home. However, there are a few party ideas that were trendy in the past but are now on their way out. We’ll discuss what those party types are, why they are old news, and what you can do instead.
Party Type #1 – The Formal Dinner Party
The Problem: What’s wrong with a formal dinner party? Ultimately nothing. They’re just a little old fashioned and need to be updated for 2017. Let your guests go more business casual and less stiff upper lip, and you don’t have to worry about any of the guests spilling wine on his best cravat.
The Solution: Instead of a multi-course meal, try something more relaxing like a tapas menu and cocktails. Party platters and hot or cold hors d’oeurves can be delivered by a catering company, leaving you more time to enjoy with your guests.
Party Type #2 – The After-Party
The Problem: There are several problems with an after-party. First of all, you have to plan two entirely separate parties, which means neither will be as good as it could have been. Second, it means ranking your friends because you can be sure that those who go home after the initial soiree will find out that they missed out on some of the best parts of the evening and feel slighted.
The Solution: Throw a one really great party. If you don’t want everyone there, be selective about the guest list. You can have a bigger party and invite the b-list on another night when you don’t go all out on food, drinks, and décor.
Party Type #3 – The Sales Party
The Problem: Whether you are selling cookware, makeup, or essential oils, no one wants to be fooled into thinking they were being invited over to a party when they are actually being given a hard sell to buy something.
The Solution: Don’t sell stuff to your friends. Hold sales parties with strangers you meet at trade shows and invite your friends to special events – unless your friends are interested in the product, of course. Then just be sure they know the cheese plate is just to compensate them for the small fortune you hope they will be spending at the party.
